Function Phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins mediate the monomeric transport of lipids by shielding a lipid from the aqueous environment and binding the lipid in a hydrophobic cavity. Able to transfer phosphatidylinositol in vitro. Isoform 2 specifically binds to phosphatidylinositol but not to other phospholipids and may play a role in the phosphoinositide-mediated signaling in the neural development. {ECO:0000269PubMed:12562526}.

Disease Associations
Tissue Specificity Isoform 1 is widely expressed. Isoform 2 is weakly expressed. In brain, isoform 2 is weakly expressed and is rather confined to the embryonic stage. In contrast, isoform 1 is widely expressed in brain, with expression in the gray matters of pre- and postnatal brains. {ECO:0000269PubMed:12562526}.
